Cross Country

On Tuesday 28th March 2017, 51 children from across the whole school competed in the Primary Schools annual Cross Country event at the Newbury Showground. On the day there was a staggering 1884 children competing. Our children were fantastic and all run superbly; very proud of them all. Overall, we came 2nd in the Hampshire schools category and the Year 5/6 girls term can 1st with a joint score of 45. We also had some individual success with Phoebe Ryder (Year 6) coming 3rd and Nathan Salter (Year 6) coming 2nd in their races. A huge well done to everyone who took part in the event and thank you to Mrs Hawkins for helping to organise and all the parent helpers who helped out on the day.

NETBALL REPORT

March has been a busy month for the netballers.

First, there were the Hampshire High Five heat rounds. In our heat group, we lost our first game 1-0 to The Priory but won our next two games 2-0 against Tadley and 4-0 against Ashford Hill. Being second in out group meant that we were through to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, we were up against the very strong Burghclere team and lost. We then had to play chalk Ridge for third place. Luckily we won 2-1 and were through to the Basingstoke District finals.

In the finals, we were up against the strongest teams from the area and struggled to net the goals, despite having lots of chances. In the end, we lost all our group matches but won our playoff for 11th and 12th place.

We may have come eleventh in the finals but we are eleventh in the whole of the Basingstoke District of primary schools.

TEAM: Nathan Salter (c - heats), Harrison Blakemore (c - finals), Sam Knight, Jess Regan,  Darcy Hunt, Bella Cooke, India Duly, Neve Chivers, Jess Courtney

Then we took part in the Newbury District Tournament at Park House School.

In our heat rounds, we were up against some tough opposition. We drew two, lost two and won one to end up fourth in our group, just missing out in qualifying for the Plate Competition. In one of the drawn matches, we were against John Rankin and were the only team not to lose to them!

TEAM: Nathan Salter, Harrison Blakemore, Darcy Hunt, India Duly, Neve Chivers, Jess Courtney (C), Alice Evans, Zoe Whittington, Georgie Godfrey, Myah Herbert.

Well done to all those who played. You were amazing: good sports and a credit to the school.

Many thanks to all the parents who transported children to the tournaments and supported us.
